POSITION

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Executive Director supports the Executive Director in leading the organization and managing its operations, ensuring the effective implementation of the organization’s mission to provide affordable housing solutions. This role involves overseeing key programs including the development of affordable housing projects, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to strategic planning and organizational development. This is a new position within the organization and part of the organization’s succession planning strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Oversight:

  • Assist the Executive Director in managing daily operations and ensuring efficient delivery of programs and services.
  • Oversee program implementation, ensuring that goals and objectives are met.
  • Assist with the acquisition and development of new affordable housing properties
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Financial Management:

  • Assist in the development and management of the organization’s budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Monitor financial performance, including reviewing financial statements, tracking expenditures, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and fundraising events.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including affordable housing programs and funding requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to funders, regulatory agencies, and the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation.

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Identify opportunities for property development, expansion, improvement, and innovation.
  • Assist in the evaluation and adjustment of strategies to respond to changing needs and circumstances in the community.

Communications and Community Engagement:

  • Represent the organization in the community and build relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and donors.
  • Advocate for affordable housing policies and initiatives at local and state levels.
  • Support marketing and public relations efforts to raise awareness of the organization’s mission and impact.
  • Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure that development projects are serving community needs

Executive Support:

  • Act as a key advisor and support to the Executive Director, providing insight and recommendations on organizational issues.
  • Serve as the acting Executive Director in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Assist in preparing for Board meetings, including developing agendas, reports, and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Social Work, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in the affordable housing sector or a related nonprofit field.
  • Proven track record in program management, financial oversight, and staff supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of affordable housing programs, policies, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures.
  • Commitment to the mission of providing affordable housing and supporting underserved communities.
  • Understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice, and a commitment to incorporating these principles into work.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in advocacy and public policy
  • Knowledge of real estate development and property management
  • Knowledge of principals of accounting and financial oversight
