Background: The Columbus Safety Collective is a group of organizations and concerned community members advocating for a nonpolice crisis response program in the City of Columbus. The ACLU of Ohio, on behalf of the Collective, is seeking proposals to build, design, and publish a new website for the Collective.  

Key Qualifications & Methods: The Independent Contractor must have a demonstrated record of building, designing, and publishing websites. Experience working with community groups and coalitions is preferred. Independent Contractors located in the Greater Columbus area are preferred.  

Project Overview: The Collective seeks an Independent Contractor to build, design, and publish a website for the

Columbus Safety Collective. This website will serve as the primary online information source for stakeholders and community members to learn about the Collective, its policy pillars, and to find out ways to engage with the organization.  

Scope of Work and Deliverables: 

The Independent Contractor shall build, design, and publish a website that: 

  • Includes a Contact and Sign-Up function that seamlessly integrates with MailChimp; 
  • Contains a Site Map, primary landing page with clear information on the Collective, and 3-6 subsection informational pages;  
  • Implements a user-friendly CMS for the Collective to update content as needed; 
  • Is SSL encrypted per current industry standards and best practices for website construction and design; 
  • Utilizes a user-centered design, making the user’s experience as seamless as possible; 
  • Is mobile-optimized; and 
  • Includes Social Media Integration to other platforms. 

The Independent Contractor shall also:

  • Work with a core team of the Columbus Safety Collective to obtain content for the website, including integrating preexisting content available on our linktree; 
  • Provide the Collective with a clear, unambiguous, easily understood by laymen project outline that sets major milestones; and 
  • Meet with the core team as needed to complete this project. 


The ACLU of Ohio shall purchase a domain name and hosting for the site and will collaborate with the Independent Contractor for any DNS needs. 

Budget: The maximum budget for the website build, design, and integration with other platforms is $10,000 (ten thousand dollars). Proposals with a budget that exceeds $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) will be immediately rejected and will not be considered. 

Key Dates and Deadlines: Proposal submissions must be received on or before August 16, 2024. The work engagement shall commence no later than September 16, 2024, and shall terminate upon completion of the work product described above, but no later than November 1, 2024.

How to Apply

Key Dates and Deadlines: Proposal submissions must be received on or before August 16, 2024. The work engagement shall commence no later than September 16, 2024, and shall terminate upon completion of the work product described above, but no later than November 1, 2024. 

How to Apply: 

Proposals submitted for consideration shall include:

  1. a detailed work plan to accomplish the above-delineated tasks;
  2. a detailed project timeline;
  3. an estimated budget to complete the project and all deliverables; and
  4. a portfolio evidencing previous work product similar in scope and parameters of this project.
