Position Summary
The Farms and Food Project Director is responsible for the efficient collaboration and communication with farms and various internal and external stakeholders in the acquisition of healthy food, the development of farm-centered programs, and the completion of a local food security assessment.
Areas of Responsibility
Area 1: In collaboration with the executive director and the assistant director, to complete a comprehensive local food security assessment for Haywood County.
- Research food and food security in Haywood County
- Conduction listening sessions and focus groups among stakeholders
- Collaborate with external agencies and individuals to identify priorities and assets.
- Produce a comprehensive food assessment to guide HCM work in community food security.
Area 2: Manage HCM’s farm relationships ensuring mutual benefit for HCM and our local farming community.
- Maintain open and transparent communication between HCM and its farm partners.
- Be an advocate for the needs of the farms within HCM
- Help devise strategies to increase our effectiveness with our small farm partners in order to increase community food security.
Area 3: Assist with the acquisition of healthy, local foods for HCM’s programs.
- In collaboration with other HCM departments and local farms, create product acquisition plans to ensure a steady supply of fresh and healthy food for our neighbors.

- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set goals and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work well with numerous stakeholders both internal and external to HCM.
- A passion for fighting hunger and improving the local food system.
- Valid driver’s license and car for meeting with stakeholders.
Compensation and Position Details
This is a grant-funded position with an expected 1-year duration. Continuation beyond that 1-year mark will be dependent on adequate funding.
The expected compensation range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000 a year.
