Description

Northstar Tutoring, a Washington, D.C. based educational non-profit, is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator. Northstar’s mission is to help children from low-income families living in the Washington, D.C. area reach their full potential by overcoming barriers to personal and academic success.  To achieve this mission, Northstar provides students with their own tutors and facilitates multiple weekly tutoring sessions.  Through these relationships, students not only receive much needed academic support, but also the stability that comes through a caring tutor/mentor relationship.

Northstar is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to oversee one of our smaller PG County programs. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and will eventually oversee an intern. The time commitment for this position is approximately 10-15 hours per week, however this could be expanded in the future with the right candidate. In person participation will be required for 4-5 hours per week and the rest can be completed remotely.  The in person participation would be from 3:00-5:00 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Ft. Washington, MD.  

Starting pay is $25-$30/hour.

Responsibilities of overseeing a small tutoring site would include:

  • Interviewing new volunteer tutors and managing the on-boarding process (including overseeing paperwork/background checks, matching volunteers with students)
  • Managing volunteer/student relationships and tracking tutoring hours
  • Providing educational materials for volunteers to use with their students
  • Collecting and inputting student data milestones 

 Education and Experience:

  • College graduate 
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with a background in education or non-profit management. Spanish speaking abilities is a plus 

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications and an interest in building technical knowledge
  • Must have ability and enthusiasm to interact with both children and adults
