Description

Georgetown Heritage is seeking an energetic, friendly and organized person to serve as its Events and Visitor Assistant.  Georgetown Heritage is a non-profit organization working to interpret the Georgetown section of the C&O Canal.  The Events and Visitor Assistant will manage inquiries about events onboard our historic replica canal boat and staff our Visitor Center.  This position is part time, up to 32 hours per week. 

Position Summary  

The Events and Visitor Assistant is responsible for staffing the Visitor Center (located inside the NPS building at 1057 Thomas Jefferson St NW), selling tickets for walking tours and other programs, answering visitor questions, and managing all inquiries for private events on the Georgetown Heritage Canal Boat.  This is a part-time position (Thursday – Sunday) with occasional evening work required.  

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Manage private event inquiries 
  • Respond to inquiries, provide pricing and logistical information to interested parties 
  • Promote private event rentals 
  • Schedule and manage all details for private events, to include contracts, invoices  
  • Staff the Visitor Center 
  • Answer phone calls and emails 
  • Sell tickets for walking tours and other programs 
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment 
  • Maintain inventory of brochures, maps, guides 
  • Work alongside GH walking tour guide and GH/NPS Visitor Center volunteers  
  • Support the organization with other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Georgetown Heritage.  

Qualifications 

The successful applicant should have the following qualifications:  

  • High school degree required, associate’s or bachelor's degree preferred 
  • Experience in customer service, visitor services, events management or other public-facing work experience 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills  
  • Computer skills, particularly in operating a Point-of-Sale. Familiarity with Salesforce or other database a plus.  
  • Be able to take initiative and work independently, with attention to detail and ability to solve problems and handle unexpected situations 
  • First aid and CPR certification a plus 
  • Experience working with and/or managing volunteers a plus 

  

Salary  

$25/hour
