Artist Initiatives Associate

Creative Capital supports underinvested, risk-taking artists in the creation of new work and in building sustainable practices to advance freedom of expression. For 25 years, Creative Capital has provided unrestricted project grants, professional development programs, industry connections, and community building for groundbreaking artists working across the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Film/Moving Image, Technology, Literature, Multidisciplinary, and Socially Engaged forms across the country. Stellar Creative Capital Awardees include:  Simone Leigh, Jeffrey Gibson, Lorraine O’Grady, Branden Jacobs Jenkins, Kristina Wong, Larissa FastHorse, Raven Chacon, Vijay Iyer, Etienne Charles, Kassa Overall, and others. Creative Capital’s educational programs, including the new, free online Creative Capital Curriculum and Artist Opportunities Listings, serve more than 250,000 artists in 91 countries annually.

The Artist Initiatives Associate works closely with the Artist Initiatives team and across departments to support Creative Capital’s mission of serving artists and awardees. Reporting to the Director of Artist Initiatives, the Artist Initiatives Associate reflects Creative Capital’s commitment to resource, connect, and elevate artists who use their creative practices in bold and imaginative ways. The Associate is an integral ambassador to the arts community and artist liaison. This role provides mission critical administrative support for the Creative Capital Award program, Creative Capital-administered artist services, grant cycles, artist gatherings and educational programs. 

Responsibilities

 Awardee Support + Services

  • Coordinates and provides administrative support for artist service requests via the Awardee Hub including, but not limited to: professional consultations (legal, financial, communications, planning and management), peer mentorship, and advising services
  • Coordinates with artist service consultants including: outreach, communications, and payments
  • Provides awardee and consultant customer service and communications, including trouble-shooting Awardee Hub issues 
  • Coordinates with tech vendors about maintenance and updates to the Awardee Hub
  • Responds to general awardee inquiries
  • Maintains up-to-date awardee records including contact records in the Salesforce database, awardee files, and responds to requests to update project and bio details 
  • Tracks awardee events, project premieres, activities, and disseminates awardee news internally
  • Tracks awardee statistics and generates awardee and artist services data reports as needed 
  • Tracks and updates awardee feedback and grantee quotes 
  • Assists with the award cycle as needed including: responding to applicant inquiries, supporting the planning and production of Info Sessions, testing the online applicant portal, generating reports, and collating data 
  • Supports the Artist Initiatives team and other departments as needed to execute special projects

Education

  • Provides support for educational programs, including: outreach, tracking and research for institutional memberships, event registration, guest speaker payment, and logistical support for educational workshops and programs
  • Liaise with Creative Capital Awardees on educational programming to help facilitate professional development for awardees and other services for artists both online and in-person 

Community Building 

  • Provides event & operations support for the Awardee Orientation, awardee convenings, and other regional artist events throughout the year (virtual and in-person)
  • Research and updates contact information for Artist Initiatives industry contact lists, and coordinates invites, attendance, and statistics
  • Actively helps to plan, coordinate, and engage artists, industry experts, press, and supporters at regional and national artist gatherings, educational programs and workshops, fundraisers and benefits, and Creative Capital Carnival and other programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Artist Initiatives

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills Required

  • BA/BFA degree is required, advanced degrees are welcome
  • Two or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Passion for contemporary art and its discourses
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • High proficiency in Google platforms (Docs, Forms, Sheets) along with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Salesforce, and Canvas
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in all our programs, partnerships, and development efforts

​​The position is full-time, in-person in the NYC office five days a week during normal business hours with occasional weekends and evenings as needed, exempt. Some travel may be required - both national and international, as needed. Candidates must be based in the New York City area. Includes generous paid time off and benefits.
