GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with legislative staff and union members to coordinate the union’s legislative priorities.    
  • Supervise Albany staff and their assignments.    
  • Lead legislative research, bill drafting, memo writing, and bill tracking.     
  • Analyze proposed legislation and make recommendations to the PAL Director.
  • Lobby elected officials in Albany regarding legislative and budget priorities.     
  • Oversee all aspects of state coalition work and assign staff as needed.     
  • Assist in planning and executing member Lobby days.     
  • Facilitate political and legislative trainings for members and local leadership.      
  • Attend or assign staff to Albany fundraisers for endorsed candidates.     
  • Submits reports to the PAL Director on legislative hearings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have 5-7 years of organizing and/or lobbying experience and be familiar with the legislative and State budget process, as well as issues of importance to Labor     
  • Policy and/or legal background preferred 
  • Strong communication, writing, and research skills
  • Ability to work with personnel at various governmental levels 
  • Must be team-oriented 
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings
