About Us

Global Growers Network (GGN) is a nonprofit based in Decatur, GA that partners with people from diverse cultures to grow fresh food for their families and for local marketplaces. We work with 200 growers representing over 20 cultures and languages. We operate a network of community gardens in Decatur and Clarkston, a market farm located at the Indian Creek MARTA station in Stone Mountain, and a 23-acre organic co-farm in Conyers.

Position Summary and Candidate Vision

The Engagement Coordinator will be the first and primary contact for many community engagement and volunteer activities, and will drive the organization’s related social media and communications presence. The ideal candidate is highly organized, social media savvy, and deeply values grower leadership in the creation of a more just and equitable local food system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the organization’s engagement activities, which includes managing correspondence, logistics, and on-site leadership of volunteer days, tours, and events for adults and for children, at Global Growers’ farms and gardens
  • Coordinate and lead tabling and speaking engagements
  • Assist in creating an engaging social media and communications presence, including the design and dissemination of event invitations, social media coverage
  • Identify, track, and feature farmer leaders, partners, funders and other resource providers in media related to specific events and programs
  • Coordinate with the program team and branding/marketing consultants to support specific campaigns and programs that require external expertise
  • Maintain media archives, including photography
  • Other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Two years’ experience in media and communications, preferably within the context of diverse and multicultural audiences. Farming, gardening and local food systems experience is ideal
  • Two years’ experience in executing public-facing engagement activities, such as leading volunteer groups, tabling at events, presenting on behalf of an organization or initiative
  • Graphic design and photography experience
  • Proven ability to take initiative, prioritize multiple projects, and organize multiple tasks
  • A demonstrated ability to to shift communication styles to fit the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between garden sites

Location and Schedule

This is a part-time, hourly position for 25 hours a week, requiring some flexibility in scheduling. Standard working hours for Global Growers’ program activities are Tuesday through Saturday. A regular schedule will be set upon hire, with occasional pre-scheduled work outside of the scheduled work week. This position is based at our office at Legacy Park in Decatur, and will require regular presence at the various urban farm, garden and orchard sites in our network, including the Rockdale Organic Co-Farm. Remote work is possible approximately 25% of the time, on an established schedule.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $20 - $23 per hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include a cell phone stipend ($25/month), 2 week paid bonus time at year-end.
