Stony Kill Foundation oversees the daily operations and community programming at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) owned Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Dutchess County, NY. Our mission is to educate the public and cultivate environmental stewardship through interpretation of the rich historical, environmental and agricultural heritage of Stony Kill Farm. Over 19,000 people visit the 1000-acre farm each year, participating in our signature environmental education programs, growing fruits and veggies in the community garden, hiking the trails, and enjoying the outdoors. The beautiful Stony Kill Farm is a place where people from all walks of life can slow down, admire the scenery, and connect with the environment. 

We are hiring for our Fall & Winter Internship (paid) to join our energetic education team at the farm. Interns contribute to all aspects of education at the farm, including the planning, preparation, and delivery of our Homeschool on the Farm, field trip programs, and public programs & workshops. This 3 to 5 month position will ideally start in September of 2024 with the potential for extension into the spring season for the right candidate. Candidates should enjoy spending time outdoors, an interest in sharing the environment with children and adults alike, and have a talent for teaching and inspiring curiosity in others!

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead environmental and agricultural activities and lessons for the Homeschool on the Farm program, field trips, and public programs & workshops.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating private events, including Scout programs, individual tours, and more.
  • Assist with farm tasks including feeding animals, mucking barn, restocking feed, organizing barn areas, general cleanup, moving hay bales and equipment, etc.



Desired Qualifications:

  • Background in teaching, child-based work, environmental sciences, or related.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, explore, and teach!
  • CPR/First Aid certifications are helpful, but not required.
  • Experience with lesson plans and/or curriculum development is helpful, but not required.

Additional Details:

  • Pay rate: $15.50/hour for 20-30 hours/week
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Housing not provided.

Staff are required to abide by mask wearing and social distancing guidelines and become vaccinated for COVID-19. Applicants will be expected to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination prior to their start date.
