The Alabama Visual Arts Network (ALVAN) is seeking a dedicated Non-Profit Executive Director to join and lead our organization into the future. The ideal candidate will oversee all operational, financial, and technical aspects of our non-profit, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.

The ALVAN Executive Director is permanent, part-time position that can transition to full-time as funding allows. The starting annual salary is $30,000 plus approved mileage and additional job-related expenses. Salary is based on the expectation of an average of 20 hours per week, 50 weeks per year, working from home with onsite program supervision and some outreach travel required.
Executive Responsibilities:
· Serve at the behest of, reporting to, and aligning with the vision of the ALVAN Board.
· Effectively communicate and coordinate with ALVAN Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary).
· Manage all ALVAN staff, volunteers and the budgets that directly support ALVAN programming.
· Provide effective direction for ALVAN staff while working closely with the ALVAN Board, listening to their ideas, understanding their strengths, and encouraging professional growth; create an atmosphere that rewards initiative, risk-taking, holds all accountable, exceeds industry standards, and encourages productivity and collaboration.
· Attend quarterly ALVAN Board meetings, ASCA Staff and Board meetings, ASCA Partner organization meetings, and other meetings as required. Prepare reports for all ASCA meetings.
· Work to increase representation in the organization of artists who are under-represented or marginalized, including women, people of color, indigenous, LGBTQ+ and others.
· In partnership with the board, staff, and appropriate constituencies, enhance and refine ALVAN’s strategic plan on an as-needed basis; develop and align short- and long-range objectives with the values-based strategic plan; and ensure that approved policies are adhered to and evaluated for updating periodically.
Finance
· Work closely with the Board, Staff, and volunteers to build a financial infrastructure for that will sustain growth.
· Along with the Board President, take joint ownership of immediate and ongoing fundraising needs for ALVAN and work closely with the Board, Staff, and key volunteers to continue sound fundraising strategies. Strengthen ties with existing supporters as well as identifying new ones.
· Manage Executive Director’s ALVAN credit card, reconcile banking statements and maintain up-to-date accounting for all ALVAN funds, revenue, and expenditures.
· Maintain grant calendar (application, contract, and final report deadlines), write, or supervise all grants (including ASCA Clay Conference and Administrative), and research new grant funding possibilities.
Outreach
· Know ALVAN thoroughly – its institutional history, culture, traditions, educational and public programs, operations, and constituents; understand the organization’s geographic context, base of support and its potential; help position ALVAN as a vibrant, integral participant in the life of its statewide community, as well as the region and in the visual art field; and develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance those positions.
· Serve as an articulate and persuasive spokesperson for ALVAN; represent ALVAN to all its constituencies, including funders, the arts and collector communities, civic organizations, business alliances and current and prospective members; cultivate strong and supportive relationships with other institutions in the region and in the arts community. Represent ALVAN at state, regional, and national arts events.
· Assist the Board in developing Advisory Boards for ALVAN and specific programs.
· Supervise and coordinate all outreach and engagement activities for ALVAN and programs including websites, mailing lists, status updates and “thank you” to all state and local politicians.
· Supervise and coordinate all ALVAN employee outreach and engagement activities.
Programming
· Supervise management of existing and future ALVAN programs, including the Alabama Arts Log, Alabama Clay Conference, Alabama Fiber Art Conference, Alabama Printmaking Conference, and Creating Your Career.
· Communicate and coordinate with Advisory Boards for ALVAN and specific programs.
· Attend program Advisory Board meetings. Attend and assist ALVAN Events.
· Negotiate and sign all contractual commitments related to programming with guidance from the Board President.
· Prepare and maintain a “guidebook” covering best practices for all ALVAN programs for the appropriate Advisory Boards.
· Assist with and approve all program budgets, personnel, and commitments.
· Develop new programming in keeping the with mission of ALVAN and the vision of the Board.
Experience, Qualifications, and Values
· Senior-level programming and management experience in an arts organization known for quality and excellence.
· Knowledge of the art world and its key players locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
· Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and meaningful collaborations.
· Fundraising aptitude including successful experience cultivating and soliciting financial and in-kind gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
· An interest in community building, especially among Alabama’s artist populations; a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Accessibility (DEIA); experience implementing programs that successfully engage underrepresented constituencies.
· The ability to work in a team, while building and nurturing relationships with staff members and other individuals from a broad swath of society – from the core art enthusiasts to unengaged, potential participants, along with dedicated volunteers, artists, funders, and collectors.
· The ability to plan, set standards for and manage programs and systematic community outreach; a track record of managing people, operations, and budgets in a complex organization.
· Experience serving as an effective spokesperson and ambassador for an institution or program, with outstanding verbal and written communication skills; the ability to generate awareness of, excitement for, and appreciation of an organization.
· An individual with integrity who is committed to excellence, practices good judgment and exudes genuine interest, credibility, and a delight in the work at hand.
