Description

Position Summary: The Manager of Development and Community Relations is responsible for co-creating, implementing and managing fundraising programs, including securing funding from foundations, corporations, government entities, local businesses and individuals. Must develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders. Maintain and grow partnerships with Meals on Wheels America, Meals On Wheels California and other LA County Meals on Wheels. With the Development Coordinator, collaboratively design, implement and grow a major gifts program and a Planned Giving program. Together with the Executive Director, Development Coordinator and additional staff, plan and implement our annual Halloween Costume fundraiser including securing event sponsorships and silent auction donations. Must have 2 or more years grant writing experience.

Must be friendly, outgoing, articulate and persuasive communicator with strong writing skills.  Must be flexible and willing to assume various roles, take on different responsibilities and collaborate with a small, dedicated staff.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create and implement national, regional and local development plans collaboratively with the Executive Director and Development Coordinator. 
  • Research, identify and secure funding from existing and new corporate, foundation and individual donors. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funding organizations and track funder staff changes. 
  • Create, submit and track fundraising grants, proposals, letters of intent, case statements, etc. 
  • Research, write and distribute reports and acknowledgements to funders. 
  • In collaboration with the Development Coordinator, co-create and manage annual major gifts and planned giving campaigns. 
  • Collaborate with Executive Director, Development Coordinator and MOW West staff on planning and successful implementation of two annual major fundraising events. 
  • Collaboratively secure corporate, local businesses and individual sponsorships of fundraising events. 
  • Recruit volunteer teams and individual volunteers from corporations, service clubs and other organizations. 
  • Collaboratively create and distribute internal and external communications including semi-annual newsletter and monthly e-newsletter. 
  • Collaborate on the creation of marketing and development materials. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional elected and appointed officials, government staff, nonprofit agencies, associations, service organizations and other community stakeholders. 
  • Provide input into strategic planning. 
  • Collaborate in the creation and implementation of local, regional and national marketing strategies. 
  • Assist in the creation of social media content including Levitate, Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and TikTok.  
  • Monitor and report on emerging social issues and programs that impact MOW West, the people and communities we serve.  
  • Occasionally deliver meals.

Requirements 

  • 2 or more years experience in nonprofit fund development required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • CA Driver's License required.
  • Reliable vehicle and proof of insurance required.
  • Work Location: 3 days onsite minimum.
  • Social Media fundraising experience. 
  • Development software management experience.
  • Event planning and silent auction experience required. 
  • Skilled in creative grant writing.
