Organizational Overview

The Amplify Georgia Collaborative (a.k.a. Amplify) is a network of reproductive justice organizations and allies leading collective, bold, abortion-out-loud campaigns grounded in reproductive justice and rooted in the South. We envision a future where all Georgians can make decisions around their bodies, their families, and their communities, free from stigma, shame, and violence. We organize to protect and expand abortion access in Georgia by identifying local and state-level opportunities for advocacy, culture shift work, education, and base building. Amplify has been organizing for policy change at the city level since 2018 and at the state level since 2021.

Job Summary

The staff of Amplify supports Georgia changemakers and their work by organizing coalition campaigns that cultivate shared leadership, build relationships with key stakeholders, strengthen the movement, and advance a vision of all that Georgians deserve. Our state campaign work began in 2021, and the campaigns are in a different place today — in some cases seeking to establish growth over the long haul, and in others ripe for a critical leap forward. Amplify is seeking a State Campaign Director who will bring these campaigns to their next phase and level up their strategy and impact.

We hope our new team member will embrace that our organizational structure is evolving and investing in more horizontal leadership (for example, staff now share in co-leading certain core internal functions, like budgeting and development). We are looking for someone who understands the roles of different strategies for change, like direct action organizing, policy advocacy, civic engagement, and public relations; knows a lot about reproductive justice; and is not new to talking about abortion. This person will need a sharp sense for strategy development and coalition management: they will respect our partners’ areas of expertise, and push their skills and leadership farther; they will draw out partners’ visions and ideas, and turn them into long-term plans and shared actions to get there. And they must care about Southerners and folks in the U.S. Southeast.

The State Campaign Director will work closely with a wide range of organizations in the broader reproductive health, rights, and justice (RHRJ) ecosystem. They will collaborate with partner and ally organizations to update and execute a multi-year, shared strategy, which includes running short and long-term collaborative campaigns to pass proactive RHRJ legislation. Although the campaigns Amplify convenes are led by partner organizations, this position is instrumental in providing support to the campaign leads. The State Campaign Director will organize and enable partners to execute high-quality, effective policy campaigns that expand access to abortion care and promote reproductive justice across Georgia. This position will also continuously build, deepen, and multiply relationships to increase coordination across the ecosystem. During the Georgia legislative session, this position will organize tracking and reporting out of relevant legislation and support partners to engage in rapid response efforts. Between legislative sessions, the State Campaign Director will support the campaigns to continue educating and organizing their bases and cultivate relationships with key elected officials to maintain momentum.

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have (1) deep experience with Georgia legislative/policy work, (2) expertise in launching and sustaining campaigns, and (3) a proven track record of facilitating coalitions or collaborative work across a diverse set of organizations. Working relationships with advocacy and/or power-building organizations in Georgia will be a significant lever for success. Finally, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of the differences between advocacy campaigns like Amplify’s (seeking policy change) and electoral campaigns (candidates running for office).

Essential Responsibilities

Campaign Management

• Support partners to design and implement continued strategic growth of our long-term state campaigns (to pass the Reproductive Freedom Act, and to hold anti-abortion centers accountable).
• Provide thought partnership and technical assistance to partners and allies to design and implement joint and individual events that raise their campaign’s visibility and community support, educate and mobilize key stakeholders, and otherwise advance our campaign goals.
• Lead by example: show up and do the campaign work with (not for) our partners. Look to match the campaign members’ needs with enabling tools, information, and/or organization.
• Maintain a collaborative process for partners and allies to support and further develop a multi-year, shared RHRJ state policy agenda.
• Surface additional strategies to advance policies aligned with the shared RHRJ state agenda.
• Work closely with the Local Campaign Manager (who supports our city-level and county-level campaigns) to ensure alignment between work in various jurisdictions.

Policy Research, Tracking, and Rapid Response

• Track and report on state policies relevant to Amplify’s work and issue areas.
• Research policy opportunities and threats in Georgia and stay up-to-date on developments in other states and localities relevant to Georgia.
• As relevant, identify opportunities for policy rapid response and support partners to lead response efforts.

State Legislative Session Coordination

• Support partners and allies to convene (as necessary) during the state legislative session to share legislative updates, strategize, and coordinate advocacy and rapid response efforts.
• Facilitate communication between partners outside of convenings to increase collaboration during the legislative session. Stay connected through participation in the RHRJ rapid response taskforce and other appropriate coalitions.

Partnership Development

• Cultivate strong, collaborative working relationships with existing Amplify partners (a.k.a. Collaborative members) and cultivate new/deepen existing relationships with other collaborators and allies, supporting them to engage in RJ work, especially related to abortion access in Georgia.
• Provide strategy support and technical assistance to partners as it relates to advancing abortion access in Georgia, including connecting partners with resources to strengthen their capacity and develop their leadership.
• Create opportunities to build and mobilize partner bases through Amplify campaigns. Help and galvanize partners to engage their base effectively in Amplify campaigns.
• Support partners to build and deepen relationships with state elected officials and other decision-makers as part of their campaign work.
• Participate in external coalitions, where additive to our work and to the ecosystem.

Communications

• Facilitate effective communication and information-sharing among our campaigns at the state and local level, including through the co-facilitation of Amplify’s steering committee.
• Work closely with the Communications and Digital Media Coordinator on campaign framing and messaging, including assisting in developing action alerts, social media messaging, one-pagers, toolkits and other resources, press releases, and other communication material.
• Collaborate with the Communications and Digital Media Coordinator to develop and implement effective digital organizing and communications strategies for campaigns.
• Occasionally serve as media spokesperson, contribute to op-eds or other publications, redirect media requests to relevant Collaborative members, and organize opportunities for media to hear from and about our partners and campaigns.

Other

• Participate in one or more of Amplify’s core functions teams—development, operations, budget, security, or peer management.
• Support program evaluation and tracking grant deliverables in collaboration with other staff.
• Support with proposal development and grant reporting as it relates to program design and budgeting.
• Participate in organizational, Collaborative-wide, and broader ecosystem strategy development.
• Represent Amplify’s state campaigns and/or the Collaborative in other coalitions, movement spaces, and public events at the state (and occasionally national) level.
• Stay up to date on developments in the Reproductive Justice movement, and in abortion access in the U.S.
• Supervise up to three direct reports (campaign interns, contract lobbyists or other consultants, and/or staff peers).
• Contribute to an organizational culture that reflects Amplify’s core values and holds space for all team members.

Experience and Qualifications

Required

• 6+ years of experience working in grassroots organizing, political or issue campaigns, and/or policy advocacy, preferably at the state level.
• Demonstrated project and campaign management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to organize organizational collaborators (this can mean managing laterally, up, or down, without formal lines of authority/supervision).
• Strong Georgia legislative policy experience and ability to track and report out on relevant legislation in a clear and timely manner.
• Proven track record of facilitating collaborative work, preferably managing coalitions.
• Experience assessing organizational needs and procuring appropriate resources and training to meet these needs.
• A strong understanding of and commitment to the Reproductive Justice framework and abortion access.
• A commitment to Amplify’s vision and core values.
• Strong relationship-building and management skills.
• Strong facilitation skills.
• A proven ability to work well on diverse teams and to manage conflict in a respectful and productive way.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a highly collaborative environment, while still independently following through on assignments and meeting deadlines.
• Strong communication skills.

Desired

• Background in grassroots and direct action organizing is a strong plus.
• Experience organizing and leading c(3) issue-based campaigns in Georgia – especially in maintaining and up-leveling after an initial launch.
• Experience mentoring or coaching others.
• Digital organizing skills and knowledge.
• Experience with policy design or analysis.

Compensation

Our fixed salary range for this position is $83,000-$91,000. The top of the range indicates a staff member who has performed a comparable role for 3-5 years and can carry out most of these duties with minimal supervision.

This position offers a full benefits package, including 100% medical coverage for the employee and 90% medical coverage for dependents; 100% coverage for vision, dental, life/AD&D, and long-term disability. Location: The Amplify team is based in Atlanta but we mostly work remotely from our homes/ individual workspaces, with semi-regular in-person events and meetings. (Each employee has access to funding for a work laptop and also office furniture, equipment, and supplies, as needed.) We may be open to candidates based in other parts of the state of Georgia. The State Campaign Director must be able to go to the Georgia Capitol quickly and frequently during January-April.
