POSITION SCOPE

To promote early hearing detection and intervention and provide impartial counseling to families including parent education and training/advocacy. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as first contact for families with children newly identified as deaf or hard of hearing
  2. Provide objective information about all communication approaches, educational placement options, and available resources
  3. Ensure Family enrollment and that high quality early intervention services are received
  4. Promote early identification of hearing loss
  5. Assist families with obtaining additional services
  6. Provide information and support regarding educational rights and procedures  
  7. Provide advocacy and resource services to families, schools, and other agencies where service delivery may be in dispute
  8. Collaborate with LEAs and BabyNet providers (Part C), to develop transitions plans and IEPs for children leaving Early Intervention and entering pre-school

Level of Language Proficiency

Must be the parent of a deaf or hard of hearing child; Bachelor's Degree is preferred but not required

●    Knowledge of hearing technology, hearing loss, language development, Early intervention, BabyNet, IFSP process OR self-motivated to learn about factors impacting Deaf\Hard of Hearing (D/HH) children in the state. American Sign Language (ASL) training and comprehension a plus.

●    Ability to be self-aware and provide unbiased information to support families across diverse backgrounds

●    A desire to seek out up-to--date knowledge of local resources to support the unique needs of children 0-5 who are D/HH

●    Ability to apply empathy and compassion when interacting with clients, co-workers, and the community at large.

●    Professional demeanor, adherence to the rules of confidentiality, and respect for clients and volunteers in line with the organization’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging mission.

●    Ability to use Google Drive and related Google applications
