Position Description

We envision a world where the racist legal system has been dismantled and Black, Latiné, Indigenous, and other youth of color have the freedom and power to live their full lives. Our Mission is to use legal services, policy advocacy, peer education, and other tools to build power and opportunity for Black, Latiné, and other youth of color who the criminal legal system and other systems of oppression harm the most.

POSITION SUMMARY

The position will be a part of our growing fundraising efforts to meet our 2024 fiscal goal of $2,700,000 and will join Youth Represent at a pivotal time in our history, as we are embarking upon a five-year strategic plan. 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the candidate will play a pivotal role in the execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy, primarily responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with institutional donors, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record in securing funding from institutional sources, developing proposals, and managing grant portfolios. This individual will collaborate closely with programmatic teams to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and a deep interest in raising funds for innovating programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prospect and Cultivate Relationships

  • Research and identify potential institutional donors aligned with the organization's mission and programs.
  • With support from the Executive Director, Director of Development, and Program Staff, cultivate relationships with foundation officers, corporate representatives, and government agency contacts.
  • Stay informed about trends in institutional giving and philanthropy to identify new opportunities and best practices.

Proposal Development

  • Develop compelling grant proposals and grant applications tailored to the requirements of institutional donors.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather information and data necessary for proposal development.
  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports and updates to institutional donors.

Grant Portfolio Management

  • Oversee the entire life cycle of grants, from application to reporting, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive grant tracking system to monitor deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement stewardship plans for institutional donors, ensuring ongoing engagement and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Development team to integrate institutional giving strategies into broader fundraising efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-5 years of experience in institutional fundraising, grant writing, or a related field.
  • A commitment to fundraising while centering racial justice, superb writing, interpersonal, and communication skills. A personal approach that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Proven track record of cultivating and securing revenue from a variety of funders, including corporations and foundations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Database management experience strongly preferred; Salesforce, Give Lively, Stripe, and iWave experience a plus.
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, research, and organization skills.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, work independently when needed, and set/adhere to deadlines

WORKING REQUIREMENTS

  • Employees are expected to work in-person at our lower Manhattan office twice a week.
  • Candidates must reside in New York City or the surrounding area.

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS PACKAGE

  • $78,780 - 86,499, commensurate with relevant experience.
