Description

Position Overview: Third Plateau, a growing multi-disciplinary social impact strategy firm, is looking for a self-directed professional to serve as a Staff Accountant on our Finance team. Under the guidance of Third Plateau’s Senior Finance Director, the Staff Accountant will work with external philanthropic management clients to provide administrative and financial support. Top candidates will be highly organized self-starters, able to work under tight deadlines, able to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously, and be hungry to learn.

Location: Flexible on remote locations, with access to office space in the Bay Area. Please note that being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment at Third Plateau, as we are not able to sponsor applicants for work visas at this time.


Starting Pay Rate (Non-Exempt): $28.85-$33.66/hour (Annualized $60,000 - $70,000)


A compensation committee of at least one department head, co-founder, and the COO will meet to discuss potential starting salary within the band by weighing the candidate's expected contribution in terms of previous experience and expertise against current Third Plateau employees. We commit to sharing the reasoning used to determine starting salary with you. The expectation is not for new team members to be hired with a starting salary at the top of the band, but to have a salary that adequately compensates experience and expertise while countering pay inequality and upholding internal parity.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

The Staff Accountant will serve as an integral part of the Third Plateau team. Under the guidance of Third Plateau’s Senior Finance Director, the Staff Accountant will provide administrative and financial support to external philanthropic management clients. Duties include, but are not limited to:


1. Finance Support

a. Entering and reviewing client debit and credit card transactions;

b. Reconciling bank, credit card, and miscellaneous expense accounts via accounting software and/or shared spreadsheets with clients

c. Inputting invoice and payment information into Bill.com and/or QuickBooks Online, reviewing for accuracy while ensuring proper approvals and W-9’s are received and/or on file.

d. Assist in bi-monthly payroll processing and/or tracking and reviewing of any needed hourly timesheets

e. Assist Senior Accountant with annual 1099 filing

f. Assisting in preparing of quarterly, annual and interim financial statements;

g. Inputting and reconciling client investment accounting;

h. Inputting and reviewing client grant awards and payments;

i. Compiling board reports and financials for Director review

j. Supporting internal accounting procedures as needed.


2. Grants Manager Administrative Support  

a. Coordinating payment of grant awards with grants managers;

b. Completing annual statement of information filings for philanthropic management clients;

c. Assisting in maintaining audit-worthy records of grants awarded;    

d. Serving as a bridge between finance and grants management teams to help build streamlined processes and ensure effective client service.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

• The Staff Accountant will have nonprofit accounting experience and a desire to learn. The Staff Accountant should have accounting experience with the ability to pick up new skills as needed.

• The Staff Accountant will have a commitment to quality client service and own your work product. You should have some experience in your background that demonstrates the attention to detail, timeliness, and the ability to follow directions while juggling multiple tasks needed to be successful in this role.

• Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Bill.com, and QuickBooks Online is a must.

• Top candidates will also be highly organized, communicate and collaborate effectively, possess a calmness under pressure, and be passionate about their work.
