Weekend Community Life Assistant
Seguinland Institute, a not-for-profit educational organization, seeks to bring on board several part-time Weekend Community Life Assistants for our 2024-2025 program season, which runs from mid-September 2024 to mid-June 2025.
● You and your fellow Weekend Community Life Assistants will help support Seguinland Institute’s award-winning Good Life Gap Year programs through part-time rotating on-call coverage, leading weekend outings and support duties. There are 18-21 students per cohort.
● The ideal candidate will have a love of experiential education and a desire to learn more about how a program such as ours operates. Candidates should also enjoy spending time in the natural world and living in an intentional community.
● The position is designed so that it can be combined with another pursuit during the weekdays (perhaps a paying job off-site or a creative project, etc.). Your work for Seguinland will occur primarily on weekends and one evening per week during programs.
● This part-time position offers free housing from September 10, 2024 to early June 2025 on picturesque Mill Island in Georgetown, Maine (but no additional compensation). Mill Island, which is adjacent to Seguinland’s campus, is reached by a short causeway and is located on the Back River. Each Assistant will have their own bedroom in this one-of-a-kind residence.
Your responsibilities will include:
During Programs
Fall Term Sept. 11-Nov 24 | Spring Term Jan 31-April 7 | May Term May 10-June 2.
● Provide on-call coverage one evening per week and half of most weekends during programs. Being on-call entails being available to respond to pressing student needs which may arise (e.g., driving a student to urgent care, prescription pick-ups, initial response to other health issues). A senior staff member will be available as backup support in the event that an issue requires consultation and/or escalation.
● Co-lead a half-day student outing most weekends ranging from a trip to the nearby town of Bath, an afternoon at the ocean-front Reid State Park, or a hike at a preserve. Your ideas for fun and meaningful activities are welcome.
● Drive students in Institute vehicles (15 passenger van or 8 passenger vehicle) to and from weekend outings.
● Provide 4 hours of general support per week (may be administrative or facilities related).
● Assist with program setup and breakdown
● Attend staff trainings
● Attend one home-cooked, always-delicious meal per week in our cookhouse (with students).
Between Programs:
● Provide 4 hours of general support per week (excluding during vacation times)
Qualifications:
● The ideal candidate will have a love of learning and experiential education.
● Will enjoy being out in nature and building community.
● Be responsible and organized.
● Possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record and be comfortable transporting students in a 15 passenger van or 8 passenger vehicle.

● Flexibility: the position is designed to be combined with another pursuit during the weekdays as your work will occur primarily on weekends and one evening per week during programs.
● Community Life Assistants are welcome to join for many of the program outings, special events, and onsite experiences offered to students.
