Invest in Our Future (IOF) is an innovative new philanthropic effort created to harness the power of historic new laws and vastly accelerate the country’s transition to a clean and equitable energy economy. IOF brings together the power of philanthropy and partner organizations to tackle the climate crisis in a way that bolsters America’s competitiveness in the 21st century. IOF will maintain a large and diverse portfolio of grantees, convene partners and stakeholders, provide technical assistance, and create a strategic hub that will pool and align major funding to ensure that the promise of the greatest investment in clean energy in U.S. history is realized.

Position Overview:

The Chief of Staff is the key liaison working with the Executive Director to advance IOF’s mission, vision, and objectives. The Chief of Staff is a trusted advisor who supports the Executive Director to manage the organization and ensure that IOF is aligned and executing against its priorities and agenda. The Chief of Staff manages IOF internal operations, organizational functionality, work and projects that have the biggest impact on the Executive Director’s and organizational agenda. The Chief of Staff works closely with senior staff and the Executive Director to   enhance   IOF program work   and  strategic   management   of fiscal sponsor and funder relationships.

The   Chief   of  Staff   will   have significant   experience  providing   strategic, advisory, and organizational leadership to support and advance IOF’s priorities. They will be equally comfortable advising the most senior levels of management as they are guiding and collaborating across all levels of staff and work at the organization.

The Chief of Staff is at ease navigating between all sectors – the nonprofit, government and corporate – whether in the United States or globally. They are a thoughtful steward of people and resources, a model of integrity and discretion, and are passionate about IOF’s mission.

Pay Range: 

$186,746.00 to $271,821.00. This represents the present low and high end of RFCC's pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Executive Director to manage workflow and ensure key priorities receive the appropriate level of the Executive Director’s time and attention.
• Develops and manages strategic oversight of all the Executive Director’s activities.
• Represents the Executive Director and IOF, as required, internally, and externally in the philanthropic community
• Briefs the Executive Director on meeting content, outcomes, and action items as necessary.
• Serves as a liaison between IOF and key stakeholders.
• Constructs organizational  agendas with an eye towards advancing and evaluating issues against IOF’s strategic and organizational priorities.
• In collaboration and partnership with the IOF teams, enables high priority initiatives and projects.
• Strategizes around the external use of the Executive Director’s voice, including the vetting of external meetings, events, and conferences invitations for the Executive Director.
• Supervises the Executive Director’s calendar of appointments, activities, and events, advising on essential and important engagements, both internally and externally.
• Supports the Executive Director by ensuring preparation for participation in high-level meetings with outside visitors, assuring strategic advice and follow up.
• Works collaboratively with all IOF staff acting as a liaison for the Executive Director and across to ensure the effective flow of information, timely and productive decisions.
• Manages the agenda for the Executive Director’s weekly meetings and supports senior management on appropriate response and action regarding emerging issues that confront IOF.
• Draft, edit, and summarize high-level correspondence and memoranda on behalf of the Executive Director; proofread and revise documents at the Executive Director’s request.
• Leads the execution of the Management Committee meetings and staff retreats, including the logistics, overseeing the development and finalization of the agendas, working with the Executive Director on the overall strategy to ensure that IOF priorities are addressed.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

• An undergraduate degree is required
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leading teams. Significant experience managing people, teams and resources is essential
• Stellar organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Sound judgment and skilled in assessing priorities
• Strong capability to develop, nurture and maintain effective relationships at senior levels
• Ability to think strategically, ask provoking questions, identify emerging issues, analyze potential impacts critical and translate research, ideas, and insights into viable recommendations for action, in concert with senior managers and officers
• Demonstrated meeting coordination and facilitation skills
• Knowledge, understanding, and field experience related to agenda setting, legislative, economic and development processes
• Ability to motivate others through effective leadership, mentoring, coaching, development, facilitation, evaluation, and rewards for staff assigned
• Commitment to IOF’s mission
• Highly developed communications skills for writing, speaking, and presenting
• Ability to listen and learn from diverse constituencies

Travel Requirements:

The candidate will be required to travel on an as-needed basis to meetings, events, and conferences several times per year up to 30%

Invest in Our Future is a fiscally sponsored project of RF Catalytic Capital, Inc. (“RFCC”). RFCC is a new 501(c)(3) public charity, launched by the Rockefeller Foundation in 2020, whose work is to develop, support, and/or apply innovative solutions to address the world's most intractable social and environmental problems impacting vulnerable people and communities. This position will begin at RFCC and may be transferred or assigned to Invest in Our Future. Such transfer or assignment, if at all, would in all aspects be subject to RFCC’s sole discretion.
