Share Winter works closely with carefully selected grantees to build efficient, effective, sustainable winter sports programs and pathways to ongoing winter sports participation. Through our partnerships, we strive to make winter sports accessible to a broader, more diverse community. Since 2017, Share Winter has introduced over 111,500 children to winter sports, totaling more than 1,021,800 experiences.

Each year, Share Winter grantees open up a world of possibilities introducing tens of thousands of kids each year to the joys of winter sports. From tentative first steps on the slopes to exhilarating descents, these programs ensure that the magic of winter is a shared experience by people of all backgrounds, enriching lives and fostering a sense of accomplishment in conquering new heights.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the CEO, the new Director of Development role is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and directing all Share Winter fundraising. This responsibility includes major gifts programs, annual fund, planned giving, and special events. The Director of Development will work with the CEO to create and execute a financial plan that ensures Share Winter continues to find funding to meet its mission and evolving goals. The Director of Development is a critical leadership role, who will work collaboratively with the Board, CEO, and other staff to develop and articulate the strategic direction of the Foundation, and to implement the resulting strategies and initiatives.


Duties include:


Fundraising and Development


  • Implement and execute an annual fundraising plan to meet fundraising goals, as determined annually during the organizational budgeting process. 
  • Collaborate with the CEO to grow current organizational cash and in-kind revenue with an expectation of growth of half a million dollars within a year.
  • Manage portfolio of donors, encourage annual giving, and continue to steward current donors.
  • Strengthen and diversify the fundraising by expanding donor base and using innovative strategies and creative ideas to identify and cultivate new corporate, individual, foundation gifts.
  • Work with the CEO to manage the Founding Shareholders program, and continue to steward these donors. 
  • Identify and manage public, private, corporate grant initiatives.
  • Conduct foundation and corporate grant prospect research and manage the cultivation of new grant funders
  • Build and implement an effective corporate development strategy that creates value mutually in a sustainable way. 
  • Oversee effective strategies to establish and grow the annual fund: direct mail, online giving, and new initiatives.
  • Execute all development recognition and gratitude through thank you emails and other creative and thoughtful channels.  Develop and manage in-kind donation tracking system 
  • Establish strategy for Major donor cultivation to establish multi year giving channels. 
  • Collaborates with monthly contribution reports with the financial team.



Operations and Communications


  • Manage grant reporting calendar
  • Maintain effective development systems and record-keeping procedures to track current and prospective donors and accurately report all fundraising income.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual development budget.
  • Align development-related communications with the organizational brand and provide ongoing evaluation of key messaging as it relates to development activity
  • Collaborate with the CEO and communications team to plan and execute campaigns throughout the year on website, email, and social media channels.
  • Will work closely with the Communications team to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials. This involves developing a compelling message that resonates with potential donors, creating donor recognition programs, and crafting targeted appeals that drive donations.
  • Will assist the CEO in PR-related activities as needed.


Leadership and Outreach


  • Represent the organization externally in partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Facilitate, engage, and support the Development Committee of the Board of Directors to meet fundraising goals.
  • Actively works to develop community relationships in key industries and giving metro areas.




Required Qualifications


Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in non-profit fundraising.


Success in securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships, as well as achieving fundraising goals.


Proven track record of successfully motivating and supporting board members and volunteers.


Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.


Strategic thinker and persuasive communicator who understands the value of relationships.


Proficiency in all Microsoft Office and Google applications. Experience with SalesForce and FundraiseUp and or other fundraising software/CRM preferred. 


Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written forms. Successful public speaking experience.


Understand the importance and how to use inclusive, anti-bias language in all development related communications.


Highly organized, flexible, collaborative, motivated, and a fast learner.


While exceptionally detail-oriented, can also focus on large concepts and strategic issues.


Experience and familiarity with winter sports and/ or youth development programming is preferred.

Ability to travel nationally once a quarter per year for donor prospecting and stewardship, donor events, staff retreats, and board meetings.

Full Time Exempt 40 Hrs a week responsive to development deadlines 

Flexible schedule between 9am to 6pm EST

Remote in the United States, near a major airport.

This position salary range is  80,000 - 90,000 Commensurate with experience 

15 PTO days - Additional days off: All Federal Holidays (10),  and your birthday.

Share Winter offers a paid end of year week closure between December 25 - January 1, but development director will be on call for urgent matters as needed.

Share Winter covers 100% of medical, vision and dental for the employee (additional coverage for dependents is available on a co-shared basis).

Share Winter offers a 3% contribution towards 401k with no match required
