The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s mission is to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. The Animal Legal Defense Fund accomplishes this mission by filing high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, providing free legal assistance and training to prosecutors to assure that animal abusers are held accountable for their crimes, supporting tough animal protection legislation and fighting legislation harmful to animals, and providing resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the emerging field of animal law.


Role Description:

The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for co-administering and co-managing a secure and efficient IT infrastructure while supporting eighty plus users and acting as a backup to the IT Manager.


Job Duties:

  • Works closely with the IT Manager to administer, develop, implement, support and optimize the Organization’s primarily Microsoft based systems to ensure that they run smoothly, leveraging a deep understanding of industry best practices, underlying technologies, and architectures for managing enterprise-level IT systems. Tasks might include user management, system updates, backups, security monitoring, etc.
  • Co-manage managed service provider (MSP) platforms including Datto RRM, ITGlue, DropSuite, and Bullphish.
  • Provide IT onboarding, initial training, and drive successful adoption of IT tools.
  • Provide Cybersecurity support and awareness training.
  • Responds and supports the resolution of Cybersecurity Incident Responses, interacting with staff and vendors as necessary.
  • Collaborate with IT MSP in supporting staff via tickets entered into our ticketing system and provide level-2 and –beyond escalation (e.g. complex requests and multi-vendor scenarios).
  • Support our HR, Legal, Senior Leadership and Leadership teams in confidential and sensitive matters involving IT including 365 Retention, personnel management, systems security, Data Preservation, and eDiscovery.
  • Support IT Manager in preparation annual IT budget, annual IT audit, IT strategic planning, development of internal best practices, vendor evaluations, 3rd-party platform deployments, audit and maintenance of security groups.
  • Collaborate in the development, simulation testing and execution of the Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for IT processes.
  • Responsible for working with IT vendor to facilitate general technology setup for new staff and ongoing support for existing staff, including remote users.
  • Order and manage maintenance of hardware including laptops, network equipment, servers, desk and mobile phones, hard drives, and other IT related hardware.
  • Manage software subscriptions for Adobe and other licensed products.
  • Support staff in assigned project-based work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We are Looking For Candidates With:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar position and/or nonprofit experience working in information technology management.

Required:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with configuration and management of Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Azure, InTune, Teams, OneDrive, PowerAutomate, Microsoft eCompliance and eDiscovery, Cybersecurity tools, and Powershell scripting.
  • Familiarity with basic network configuration and troubleshooting on a Windows OS.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, volunteers, etc.
  • Customer support and desktop support experience in a hybrid Windows and Mac environment.
  • Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience working with IT vendors including escalations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information, including personnel matters, legal matters, financial data, and other proprietary information.
  • Demonstrated experiences with developing IT technical documentation
  • Willingness to occasionally work nights and weekends when necessary to resolve technology or security issues.

Preferred:

  • GoTo VoIP, LastPass, ShareFile, and CrowdStrike, Datto RRM, ITGlue, DropSuite, and Bullphish experience.
  • Microsoft certifications (MCSE, MCSA, CompTIA Security+), or equivalent experience.
  • Project management experience relative to company-wide roll out of IT solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, problem solve and manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • An understanding of and demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
  • The ability to travel periodically for staff meetings and retreats (estimated 1-3 trips annually).

  • Starting annual salary of $83,775 for most geographic locations.
  • For candidates located within 25 miles of Washington D.C., Cotati, CA, and Los Angeles, starting pay is $88,186.
  • For candidates located within 25 miles of New York City and San Francisco, starting pay is $92,595.

To ensure salary equity, we do not negotiate salary outside of the published starting rate. Rate is determined by role, using set geographical factors;
