  • Community outreach and engagement
  • Conduct substantial direct community outreach in Framingham, Hudson and Milford.
  • Form trusting relationships and provide face-to-face, individualized support that can help residents overcome barriers to accessing SNAP and WIC. 
  • Create a safe space for individuals to ask questions and express concerns about SNAP, WIC, and food access more broadly.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key community stakeholders.
  • Build upon pre-existing relationships with public schools, Councils on Aging and food pantries in Framingham, Hudson and Milford.
  • Identify and engage in opportunities to provide SNAP and WIC awareness, education, and targeted direct application support with priority populations (older adults, families with children, and residents for whom English is not their primary language). 
  • Assist in the development of any new SNAP and WIC outreach materials needed, utilizing community input.
  • Strategic planning, implementation, and measuring progress
  • Schedule and provide “office hours” at identified schools, senior centers, food pantries and community centers.
  • Identify outreach goals and methods for tracking progress, with assistance from the MWFC Manager and Steering Committee.
  • Record and track the results of outreach activities (including number of outreach events, number of individuals engaged with, and number of SNAP and WIC applications submitted).  
  • Prepare statistical and narrative data for quarterly reports. 
  • Collaborate with MWFC Manager to provide updates for external communications including: quarterly newsletter, website, blog and social media. 
  • Participate in additional planning efforts that support the MWFC in advancing goals within three priority areas (Food Equity and Justice, Healthy Food Access, Community Engagement) and contributing to a thriving and just food system in the MetroWest region.
  • Leveraging resources and supporting change
  • Recruit, train, and oversee “community ambassadors” to support SNAP and WIC outreach efforts, as appropriate.
  • Use insights gained from SNAP and WIC outreach experiences to inform MWFC advocacy efforts aimed at policy and budget improvements to support access to nutrition benefits. 
  • Stay up-to-date on current news and policy issues related to SNAP and WIC benefits.
  • Identify funding and partnership opportunities that support the development of a successful SNAP and WIC Outreach Program.
  • Connect with local, state and national SNAP and WIC Outreach professionals.
  • Work closely with the MWFC Manager, Steering Committee and Working Group members to identify opportunities to ensure a successful program.


Supervision

The SNAP and WIC Outreach Coordinator works under the administrative supervision of the MWFC Manager in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies. The varied duties of this position require strong judgment and initiative, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.  


Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Commitment to advancing equitable access to healthy food, strengthening the local food system, and advancing the aims of food justice.
  • Bi-lingual/multilingual, ideally Portuguese and/or Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively reach and form relationships with low-income families.
  • Experience successfully working with a wide-range of community stakeholders to advance goals of mutual interest. 
  • Strong planning and implementation skills, including close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and expertise working with diverse, multilingual individuals and communities. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work varied hours (nights, weekends, etc.)
  • Ability to travel throughout the region for outreach activities on a daily/weekly basis (MWFC reimburses for work-related travel).
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2-4 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor’s degree plus 1-2 years of relevant experience. 
  • Commitment to antiracism and to building health equity in alignment with the MWFC mission.


Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of SNAP and WIC programs and application processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a hybrid or remote setting.
  • Stable internet access and competency in using various digital tools, including video conferencing software (Zoom, Teams), Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Canva.
  • Experience with program data collection, analysis, and reporting. 
  • Familiarity with grant writing and reporting.


Job Title: SNAP and WIC Outreach Coordinator 

Location: Hybrid with primary office location at Hudson Town Hall, along with regular 

office hours in Framingham, Hudson and Milford

Job Type: 37.5 hours/week

Non-union, Benefits Eligible

Starting Annual Salary Range: $61,000 - 67,000 (Grade M5)
