Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Planner, the Branch Chief of Traffic Forecasting, the incumbent assists with performing travel demand modeling analyses, analyzing various traffic studies and transportation reports, preparing traffic data, attending Project Development Team (PDT) and related meetings, and reviewing projects for consistency with long-range transportation plans. The Transportation Engineer's role helps provide support to other functional units and programs including, but not limited to, System Planning, Local Development-Intergovernmental Review, Preliminary Engineering Studies, and Capital Projects during various project development phases.

Transportation Engineer Civil Exam

Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Please contact the exam unit at askexams@dot.ca.gov for additional information prior to taking the online examination.

Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Exam. You must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
