College Success Specialist

 

Leading Youth Through Empowerment is seeking a highly motivated candidate for the position of College Success Specialist. The College Success Specialist will work closely with the College and Career Services team to support marginalized Delaware high school graduates with post-secondary opportunities, including college and vocational/technical programs. 


 

About LYTE:

Leading Youth Through Empowerment (LYTE) is a non-profit organization serving middle school, high school, and college students. LYTE supports low-income students and students of color with preparation for and transition to high school; preparation for and applications to college; and post-secondary support. 


 

In spring of 2023, LYTE launched the Close the Loop Initiative. Through this program, high school graduates in the LYTE program receive additional support with college, pre-career vocational programs, and internships and early career job placements. The ultimate goal of this program is to support students through their post-secondary education and help them to start careers in high-demand industries in Delaware.


 

Job Description:

The responsibilities of the College Success Specialist include:

  • Lead alumni surveys on data collection
  • Follow up with alumni on supports and internship and career pipeline opportunities
  • Ensure that LYTE alumni participate in relevant career opportunities in Delaware while in college
  • Connect alumni with internship opportunities
  • Walk alumni through internship application process
  • Review resumes and cover letters, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Helping to plan and facilitate professional development and academic support sessions with post-secondary scholars.
  • Helping to plan and facilitate post-secondary events such as the annual Alumni Picnic.
  • Providing one-on-one support to students struggling with financial aid, academic concerns, and applications to summer or graduate programs.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain the internship resource library (in Salesforce and G-Suite) that corresponds with the appropriate pipeline.
  • Create a system (in Salesforce and G-Suite) to advertise important internships with urgent deadlines.
  • Inputs data entry of internship opportunities and career advice network information.
  • Works with our Salesforce support person regarding any problems with the development of the internship database.
  • Collecting, entering, and analyzing program-related data.
  • Supporting supervisor and College and Career Team with all required tasks.


 

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, ideally in an education or workforce development-related field.
  • Experience working with and advocating for college-aged students
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively build and motivate individuals and teams
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and communities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other computer software
  • Oral and written fluency in one or more languages preferred
