Position Summary:

The Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager for the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA) is part of a small but dynamic development team committed to supporting the Museum’s mission, to stimulate knowledge and appreciation of Mexican art and culture from both sides of the border through a significant permanent collection of Mexican art, rich visual and performing arts programs, high quality arts education programs and resources and professional development of Mexican artists. The Museum welcomes all people and strives to foster a world where all are included.

The primary focus of this position is grants and sponsorship management including identification, solicitation, cultivation and compliance and the retention of corporate and foundation relationships and gifts. Primary responsibilities include implementing strategies to secure funding on an annual basis from corporations and foundations, preparation of grant proposal/applications, reporting, tracking and development and implementation of stewardship strategies for the retention of corporate and foundation support. 

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the identification, cultivation and solicitation of corporate and foundation support for Museum programs and projects. In collaboration with Chief Development Officer, plan and manage solicitation strategies for corporate and foundation support.
  • Act as grant writer for the Museum, generating well researched, well written and well documented grant and fundraising proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations (including government grants)
  • Act as a liaison with program staff – working directly with program managers in the development of grant proposals
  • Maintain and implement grant cultivation activities including managing donor database records, calendars, agreements, files, progress reports and financial reporting
  • Retain business relationships with corporate and foundation giving officers. Ensure fulfillment of recognition, acknowledgements, and management of reports and solicitations for corporate/foundation/government donors and contacts, externally and internally
  • Research prospective foundations and corporations to increase the Museum’s funding
  • As a member of the development team, contribute to the achievement of the Museum’s strategic and annual operating plans

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills required for the effective delivery of the Museum’s vision, mission and brand
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Two to four years of experience and successful results in securing corporate (sponsorships and gifts) and/or foundation (grants) funding
  • Expert knowledge of fundraising software. NMMA uses Bloomerang for donor tracking.
  • Knowledge of art history and/or arts education is preferred
  • Knowledge of Spanish language preferred

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Two to four years of job-related experience is required.
  • Have an understanding of, passion for and commitment to developing the relationships and resources necessary to carry out the National Museum of Mexican Art’s mission and goals
  • Personal presence and the ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies both within and outside the organization
  • Proficiency in setting priorities and using time effectively to meet organizational goals and objectives
  • Ability to build productive working relationships with donors and National Museum of Mexican Art staff and leadership
