About Us
Karmê Chöling is a Buddhist meditation center located in Barnet, VT. Established in 1970, Karmê Chöling offers mindfulness programs in a welcoming community setting for both new and experienced practitioners in Shambhala meditation. Our 450-acre property includes trails, retreat cabins, an organic garden, and a main building that hosts up to 60 residents.
This is a live-in residential staff position. Residential staff form the heart of our community and commit to:
- Working 25-30 hours per week, plus ~5 additional hours of community-related tasks
- Attending weekly staff & community meetings and periodic staff trainings
- Participating in daily meditation practice and cultivating a culture of kindness and mindfulness
Overview of Position
The Housekeeping team is vital to providing Karme Choling guests with warm hospitality. This position is for you if you share our vision for organized, inviting, and sparkling clean guest rooms, public spaces, and bathrooms.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Work under the direction of the Head of Housekeeping in regards to planning and executing daily cleaning and deep cleaning projects
- Clean guest rooms, bathrooms, and public spaces in a timely and planned manner
- Maintain daily awareness of arrivals and departures
- Interact with guests and staff in a friendly and professional manner
- Cultivate a supportive and professional work environment with fellow employees
- Train program participants to assist with basic cleaning, as needed
Qualifications
- Aspire to a high-level of excellence
- Detail-oriented yet able to work in a timely manner
- Able to work independently and identify priorities, while also responding to direction
- Punctual yet flexible with hours worked
- Prior cleaning experience desired, but not required
- Basic English proficiency to understand directions and communicate effectively
Compensation
- Modest monthly stipend commensurate with experience
- Room and board, including a personal room, daily meals, and access to community spaces, such as staff “exercise” room
- 28 personal days per year
- Free access to qualifying programs
- Supports for meditation practice, including a personal Meditation Instructor and time dedicated to meditation in the daily schedule
- A generous guest policy
Note: We will consider applications for non-residential part-time work at an hourly wage TBD based on experience.
