About the Production Manager, Special Projects Role: 

BRIC seeks a full-time Production Manager, Special Projects who will manage the installation of art exhibitions, fabrication, event production,and administrative-related activities. Collaborating with curators, artists, and producers, the Production Manager, Special Projects will be committed to safe working conditions, high production standards and will contribute to a positive artist, audience, and staff experience. The Production Manager, Special Projects will collaborate with BRIC producers, curators, artists, outside galleries and institutions, government officials, vendors, and others in the planning and execution of exhibitions, events, and fabrication. This position reports directly to the Director of Production.

 What You’ll Do in the Role: 

The Production Manager, Special Projects will be responsible for the following in addition to any other projects as assigned by their manager, the Director of Production: 

Production Management:  (45%)

• Collaborate with the Director of Production to manage production activity for exhibitions, events, and rentals.
• Oversee planning and execution of assigned programming from inception to completion as assigned.
• Manage overall event planning across several departments - Producing Dept, Media, Production, Operations, Marketing, Education, Development, & Government Affairs.
• Coordinate overall project budgets for all departments.
• Collaborate with team leads to manage relationships and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and manage all production processes, meetings, equipment, and staffing.
• Lead the project team in a post-production debrief to ensure the success of future events.
• Act as Technical point of contact for BRIC Producers and Rental Clients.
• Recruit, Hire, & Schedule part-time hourly staff.
• Train and mentor artists and freelance staff during load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances, and strikes.
• Develop and implement production policies that ensure safe working conditions and high organizational and artistic standards for event and exhibition production.
• Manage vendors on-site for events.
• Coordinate resource allocation with internal and external stakeholders including: Operations, BRICTV, Community Media, Contemporary Arts, and vendors in collaboration with Production Department leadership.

Exhibitions:  (25%)

• Collaborate with curators, artists, directors, and other stakeholders to conceptualize and design exhibitions.
• Produce digital design drawings and renderings. 
• ​​Coordinate printing, framing and mounting, fabrication, A/V tech, other art production, and gallery lighting.
• Draft installation timelines and daily checklists for handlers. 
• Organize transportation logistics for artworks both locally and out of state.
• Oversee condition reporting of incoming and outgoing artworks.
• Provide on the floor supervision of art handlers and technicians supporting exhibitions.
• Install artwork of varied media, AV components, and wall graphics.
• Create exhibition protocols and work with Operations to train the Visitor Experience Attendant.
• Maintain inventory for art handler materials, tools, and A/V equipment.

Administrative:  (20%)

• Attend daily production team meetings.
• Track freelance staff hours and approve hours for payroll.
• Coordinate team documentation including meeting reports, staffing spreadsheets, production media, payroll reminders, personnel information, manuals, etc.
• Research and purchase materials required for installation, process payments to suppliers, and perform weekly bookkeeping.
• Develop and implement production policies that ensure safe working conditions and high production and artistic standards.
• Work with the Director of Production to create event-specific and annual budgets that include, but are not limited to, labor, equipment, and maintenance.

Fabrication:  (10%)

• Create fabrication and design drawings in CAD for in-house construction and for bidding.
• Guide fabricators to ensure accurate production of items on time and within budget.
• Produce prototypes, material schedules, production schedules, and installation schedules to support the development, build, installation, maintenance, and de-installation.
• Operate equipment and machinery such as but not limited to, personnel lift, table saw, drill press, and other hand and power tools as needed.
• Maintain the wood shop, galleries, and exhibition storage areas, including inventory, cleaning, painting, organizing, and repairs as needed.  
• Liaise and establish working relationships with lighting, packing, framing, and building/production material vendors.

Experience & Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. 
• Minimum of five years of professional experience in project management in museums, galleries, and/or non-profit art spaces.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. 
• Familiarity with art handling, packing, rigging, and transportation best practices.
• Experience with a wide range of AV equipment such as projectors, media players, and other exhibition technologies.
• Experience and knowledge working with a wide range of materials and fabrication methods and technologies.
• Experience organizing performances and live events.
• Ability to conduct research and solve problems independently. 
• Proficiency with Google Suite and Adobe Photoshop.  
• Working knowledge of CAD, SketchUp or other drafting software. 
• Ability to pivot projects as required due to changes in project and producer goals.

Other Things to Know: 

• Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $65K - $80K.
• Status and location: This is a full-time, non-exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.

BRIC currently pays 100% of the premium for employee medical, dental and vision coverage starting on the first of the month after 2 months of employment.
