Development Director

Mission:

Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA) supports and develops media-based storytelling centering Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to foster collective healing, power, and liberation.


Scope: The core duties and responsibilities of the Development Director are 1) strengthening and diversifying DNA’s fundraising program which includes grant management and institutional and individual prospecting, 2) diversifying DNA’s support base, and 3) stewarding as well as expanding DNA’s current resources and supportive communities. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Artistic Director and DNA advisory board to ensure that DNA’s fundraising goals are met and in alignment with the mission and values of the organization. The Development Director is a strategic thinker, team player, and compelling storyteller. 


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Executive Artistic Director and the Advisory Board to develop fundraising strategies and goals
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, aspirational yet achievable, fundraising plan in alignment with DNA’s mission, vision, values and strategy
  • Prospect and cultivate new DNA funders, donors, and supporters while managing all stewardship efforts
  • Represent DNA externally in partnership with the Executive Artistic Director
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual development budget
  • Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including cultivation and reporting
  • Develop, plan, and execute annual fundraising and appreciation events
  • Research, write, and submit grants 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports and communications as required
  • Create and maintain effective systems and procedures to track current and prospective donors and accurately report all fundraising income
  • Collaborate with communications team to develop regular donor communications, appeals, and marketing materials
